about
Bass player Pete Clark and keyboard player Arman Vardanyan met in 2014 when they played together in an original jazz fusion trio called Cygnus Flare. It became apparent as they worked together that they were both fans of progressive rock. Some of the compositions performed by Cygnus Flare at that time were an interesting blend of jazz fusion with hints of progressive rock. As Cygnus Flare continued to work together, Pete frequently disagreed with the drummer in musical matters and subsequently he left the band early in 2015. However he asked Arman if he would be interested in continuing to write and record together in a side project he named Glasshouse, to see if they could continue to develop this fusion of styles. Arman sent Pete a piece of music entitled "Born", originally intended for the neo-prog band Jadis whom he had worked with previously as keyboard player, both live and on their 2012 release "See Right Through You". Pete re-arranged the composition, completely re-writing the drum and bass tracks, thinning out the dense keyboard arrangement and adding electric guitar parts. He re-named the piece "Prometheus" and sent a demo version back to Arman. Arman liked the demo and started to work on one of Pete's compositions, "Black Swan". However in the months that followed, Arman's time was increasingly taken up with "Cygnus Flare" and the project ground to a halt. In the years that followed, Pete's rediscovered passion for prog rock lead to his involvement with tribute bands "What The Floyd" and "Progfathers" which in turn lead to him recording bass for "The ESP Project" on the albums "22 Layers Of Sunlight", "Three" and "The Rising". During this time though, with the help of What The Floyd members Dan Bowles and Felipe Amorim, Pete put together a live drum track for "Prometheus". Pete then recorded his bass and melded these parts with his edited keyboard arrangement from the demo version. All that was left to do was to add the guitars. Pete's touring commitments with What The Floyd again stalled the project until everything ground to a halt in 2020! Pandemic, lock-down... time to work on original material! Finally returning to "Prometheus" Pete was able to record his guitar parts, including a new intro and some additional keyboards. At last, just over 5 years since he started working on the piece, Pete published "Prometheus" on YouTube and then started to work with renewed enthusiasm on the Glasshouse project.
